the great debate... iMac7 or MacPro?

Postby CyberdyneMedia on Sat Jul 31, 2010 2:28 pm

so i see myself buying a new computer in the next while, but i've been wondering over one thing with HDMI and dragon, and the iMac.

the new iMac7's have an HDMI input on them now, through the graphics port with a converter box / dongle key style connecter. you can hook up a ps3 to your imac and use it as a monitor, or as your TV if you wish. Now my question is this.... does Dragon recognize this port as an HDMI input from a Sony HDR-SR12 camera? or does Dragon only work with the black magic card and a MacPro? does anyone have a setup like this that works? any devs tested it out yet? (the i7 with an HDMI input)

what i would really like to do is lose the tower and these 2 monitors on my desk, and just have a nice sleek single big assed monitor to work with. I don't do editing as much as i sued to so i don't need the überness of a tower, the i7 can process finalcut just fine now.

any help would be awesome, i don't want to get the wrong kind of mac here.

Timmeh.

Hi Timmesh,

The HDMI input is for the monitor part of the computer--not the computer itself. In other words, it is not an HDMI input from the perspective of the computer, so it would not take the place of a Blackmagic Intensity card.

Hopefully that answers your question--although it's probably not the answer you wanted.

Of course, another direction you could go would be to get a live view Canon DSLR with the iMac. You could probably buy the camera with the money you save on the computer. :)
